death of mr jas garry
we regret to announce the death of mr jas garry, which took
place at the grange, stranton, last night. the late mr garry,
who was 67 years of age, was an architect by profession. he
left bishop auckland (where he was educated at the bishop
barrington schools), and came to west hartlepool in 1870, and
had since carried on business in the town, the firm now being
known as jas garry and sons. mr garry was a fellow of the royal
institute of british architects, and was responsible for the
designing of several local buildings, as well as private
property. he was a member of the old town commissioners, and
some years ago sought a seat on the town council, but without
success. the late mr garry was a well-known freemason,
a very enthusiastic cricketer, and keenly interested in music
being himself a most capable violinist. he leaves a widow and
family of four, to whom sincere sympathy will be extended.
