sleep experiment, attempt 5, week 1Sun 17 Jul 2005 - Day 0I've just got back from a two week holiday in Canada. Seeing as I'm jetlagged, it seems an opportune moment to try polyphasing again.I slept about five hours in the afternoon yesterday and it is now 7:00 Sunday morning. At 8:00, I will attempt a half-hour nap. I'm pretty tired already, so it should go well. It's now 22:00 and I'm feeling reasonably alright. I had naps at 8:00, 12:00 and 4:00ish. I'm hoping that I don't keel over in the early hours. Watched some Blake's 7, just before midnight. Mon 18 Jul 2005 - Day 1Got up at 0:30 and watched the last quarter of an hour of the Blake's 7 episode. I've been messing around on the internet since then and it's now 2:42. Feeling pretty drowsy.Tried to sleep at 4:00 but failed. Drove straight up to Swindon, did a three mile run that nearly killed me, had a nap in my car at 8:00 and went to work. Work was fine. Nap at midday, missed my 16:00 nap and came back to Bournemouth and got my 20:00 in very nicely. It's now 23:44 and I'm pretty tired again. Total sleep: approximately 2 hours. Tue 19 Jul 2005 - Day 2Oops, I overslept on my midnight nap until 2:00. I somehow resurrected myself but feel pretty crappy right now.I spent this morning tidying my room. The 4:00 one went better. However, it is now 05:55 and I feel tired. Overslept on my 8:00 and woke at 10:00 feeling really really bad. Supposed to be working today, so I'll make up the hour and a half later on today. Went for another nap at 12:20 and overslept again! Woke up at 14:20. Looks like I'll be working late today! The 16:00 went fine and I went to the gym to do chest exercises with Alex between 18:00 and 20:00. I wasn't tired enough to sleep at all, so I went for my next nap a bit later, at 9:45. That went fine too. Total sleep: approximately 7 hours. Wed 20 Jul 2005 - Day 3Tried to sleep at 1:00, but failed.Made up for the lost work between 1:00 and 4:00 and had a good sleep after. Oops, overslept on my 8:00 until 10:00 again! Bad. 12:30 and 16:00 naps were fine. Went to the amusement arcade with Alex and played air hockey and Tokyo Cop! My reaction speed seemed satisfyingly good. Had the final nap of the day at 8:30. Total sleep: 4 hours. Thu 21 Jul 2005 - Day 4First nap of the day was fine. The 4:00 was fine and then I left for Swindon. I ran three miles in 19 minutes 59 seconds at the gym, had a nap and went to work. The morning at work was fine. The midday nap was fine, but I started feeling really tired towards the end of the afternoon. Nap at 17:30 was fine and I started driving home. My car overheated about a third of the way back so I slept for half and hour before continuing. When I did continue, I started feeling really bad, so I stopped and had another half an hour, for safety. I'm back at home now and it's 22:00. I'm starting to feel better.Total sleep: 4 hours. Fri 22 Jul 2005 - Day 5Overslept on the 4:00 until 5:30.8:00 was fine. I was fine at work, surprisingly feeling alert at a meeting that went from 11:00 until 13:30. Had a half hour sleep afterwards. Went to Robin's house after work and had a half hour sleep before watching the last two episodes of Doctor Who on his big screen. Drove home and had a half hour sleep at about 10:00ish. Total sleep: 3.5 hours. Sat 23 Jul 2005 - Day 6Midnight nap was fine.But then - disaster! My half hour 4:00am nap turned into a 13 hour sleepathon! Upon getting up, I didn't feel any less tired than normal. I've been 'resting' most of the rest of the day too. Total sleep: 14+ hours. |
