While I'm Away
I used to work at Tesco's and I hated it. The time would pass incredibly
slowly. And I hated the knowledge that I would have to go to work at some
point later in the day. It would be like an oppressive cloud hanging over
me.
I wrote this song while I had this feeling, waiting to have to go to work at a
job I hated.
I imagined I was on a checkout, knowing that I had a holiday to go on in a
week's time. Although I didn't. The song made me feel a bit better though!
The original lyric for the chorus was 'I won't do what you say', but I decided
that it was a bit aggressive for this kind of song.
This is the very last mix I did before my disk crashed, and it would have been
changed quite a bit for the final album.
Lyrics
I'm gonna take loads of pills with my publicity stills
And while I'm away I don't care what you say.
I'll eat ice cream by the sunniest stream.
There'll never be a day with people in my way.
I'll sleep 'til three and then I'll get some tea,
While I'm away.
I'll drink 'til I'm gone with King Kong
And while I'm away I don't care what you say.
I'll jump in the sea from the balcony,
Swim across the bay if it takes all day.
I'll be soaked to the skin, knee deep in sin,
While I'm away.
And I can't wait until I'm gone,
I know it won't take too long,
And I can't wait until I'm gone.
I'll lie on the sand in another land
And while I'm away I don't care what you say.
I'll have a word with many a bird
And I'd better have my way by the break of day,
Or I'll kick up a storm in the light of dawn,
While I'm away.
