Wrong With Me
I wrote this song, along with 'Get Out Of My Way', in my final year at university.
The verse riff was inspired by a lick from another song that Alex wrote for our band 'Pang'.
Recently, I heard a track by Rage Against The Machine - it's the first song on the album that has 'Killing In The Name' on it. The riff is nearly identical, but in a different key! I had no idea about this, so I say that my song is still valid...
For a while, we played an instrumental only version of this in my old band 'Decorum', because the singer seemed to only want to sing songs that he had written(!) I expect the way the verses go didn't help either.
It's about not knowing what you want to do in life and suspecting that you'll never find your place. About wanting to start something new and different but having no idea how. Do other people have these kinds of thoughts?
So, the idea of the lines in the verses running into each other is intended to suggest the confusion of many future possibilities.
I recorded two versions of this in two days. The original was longer and I thought it could do with tightening up, and the result was the one that survived the disk crash.
